National Inventory Report

02-Dec-2024

As part of its international commitments to combat climate change, Morocco has submitted its National Inventory Report (NIR) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This report reflects the Kingdom’s determination to enhance the quality, transparency, and reliability of its climate data, in accordance with the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) of the Paris Agreement.

The NIR presents greenhouse gas emissions data for the years 2020, 2021, and 2022, as well as a revision of previous data (2010 to 2018), incorporating the latest Global Warming Potentials (GWPs) from the IPCC and methodological improvements. It builds upon the continuity of the four previous National Communications and the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), illustrating Morocco’s growing commitment to resilience, mitigation, and environmental accountability.

The result of rigorous inter-institutional coordination, this report marks a major milestone in adapting the national Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system to the new requirements of the Enhanced Transparency Framework. It thus lays the foundation for strengthened climate governance, fostering collaboration, transparency, and collective mobilization towards a sustainable future.
